Great Green Bush Cricket (Tettigonia viridissima)

Sand dunes and woodlands prove to be a popular habitat for numerous spiders and beetles, including some species that are only found in this area of Britain. Rare species include the Strand-line Beetle (Eurynebria complanata) and a recently discovered British spider named after Gower (Lasiargus gowerensis).

More commonly found lumbering across pathways, however, is the fascinatingly named Bloody-Nosed Beetle, a comical looking leaf-eater. When disturbed or handled these creatures exude a blood-like substance from their mouth as a defense mechanism.
